Newsletter Term 2 Week 8 2021

Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

In the last newsletter I wrote about Cyber Safety and provided some links to support parents in keeping their children safe in an online world. One of these links was from the Carly Ryan Foundation and we have booked them to run a student session for our Year 4, 5 and 6 students on Thursday 1st July.

1/2 RED News

Over the last four weeks Year 1/2 Red have been lucky enough to have Kim Johns, a pre-service teacher working with us. During this time Kim has taught a Physical Science Unit about Forces.

The students studied the forces push and pull, gravity, friction and buoyancy. They looked at how the forces worked and where we use them in our everyday lives. They carried out experiments where they composed a hypothesis, decided what would be constant and what they would change (variable).

Here are some of the things the children discovered.

Soccer and Netball Term 2 and 3:

The program for the remainder of the soccer and netball season has now been released and distributed to all players. Please note that these programs do change slightly and if this does occur the school will ensure that an updated program is given to families.

NAPLAN Pilot Study

The Year 3 students from Tenison Woods Catholic School were nominated to participate in the NAPLAN Writing Rubric Review Pilot Study. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) has been undertaking a comprehensive review of the NAPLAN writing assessment program with the aim of improving the way writing is assessed, marked and reported.

Parents and Friends News

Hello TWCS Families,

The P&F have restocked the sandpits with new dump trucks, shovels, spades, buckets and a storage container. We hope the kids get a lot of recess/lunchtime enjoyment from them!

On Wednesday we held a Pasta Lunch Day for the staff & students. The sauce was lovingly made by the Maresca family. Thank you to Vinny (the Chef), Jane, Angella and Jane for volunteering your time to put this on for the kids. The kids absolutely loved it!

We will also be holding a parent's night out dinner on the 31st June, so please save the date. Venue details and cost to follow soon!
