Our Year 6 students joined other Catholic schools at the Adelaide Cathedral Hall in Wakefield St.
These school leaders participated in a Just Leadership Day facilitated by Suzy Penberthy from Caritas Australia. They learnt about and spoke about their hopes for the future, global influences on these hopes and those in the world who don't have the power to change their circumstances.
Here is a summary of their ideas and impacts:
- Abigail - I liked the beginning task at the Just Leadership day where we threw a big globe around the circle and we put stickers with words about the world.
- Olivia - We talked about respecting different cultures and traditions. We played a game where we learnt about other people's cultural perspective.
- Ruby - For the cultural activity, we split in two groups. Each group had different rules and traditions and we had to mingle and learn how to act respectfully. We observed the other groups actions and made comments about what was different and what was seen as rude or disrespectful. I think the game teaches us to respect other cultures and beliefs because we are not all the same.
- Matthew - I enjoyed the Power Walk where we had a specific character and we could move one step if the question applied to us. People at the front were important like school presidents, local mayor and police officers. People who didn't move much were poorer, less fortunate and did not always have a say.
- Ilija - I think Suzy was a good teacher and her instructions were clear. The cultural game was in depth and we were able to feel empathy.
- Hudson - We participated in a quiz about the conditions of people all around the world. We learnt that many people do not have access to clean toilets, water, education and food. One of the group activities was a dinner table task where, we chose people who we felt were a Just Leader. We chose people we knew and people who are famous. We will take these ideas back to school for Caritas Carnival.
