Character Strength of the Month

At TWCS all students gain a deeper understanding of our Character Strengths by focusing on a different one each month.

The Character Strength for the month of May was Love

The month of May saw the classes focus on the Character Strength of Love. This is defined as:
'I experience close, loving relationships that are characterised by giving and receiving love, warmth and caring.'

All of the classes explored this Character Strength with discussions about what Love looks like, feels like, sounds like and how to spot others showing love to themselves and others.

The classes also read a variety of different children's book that focus on Love and the expression of love. A selection of these books can be found in the photo gallery if you would like to read these with your child. The students in R/1 Blue, R/1 Gold and Year 1 Red explored the Character Strength of Love in their investigation stations and were able to describe what they believed Love to be.

May also saw the classes celebrate Mother's Day with a class liturgy. This special day for Mothers was an opportunity for students to explore the Character Strength of Love and how they express their love to their Mums and the special women in their lives. The classes also learnt about Mary the Mother of Jesus and that she teaches us how to love others.

The Character Strength the month of June is Gratitude

For the month of June the focus Character Strength will be Gratitude. This Character Strength is defined as:

'I am grateful for many things and I express that thankfulness to others.'

The classes have begun exploring this Character Strength by starting Gratitude Journals and daily sharing of their Specks of Gold, which I look forward to sharing with you. I encourage you to ask your child each day to share their Speck of Gold or what they are grateful for.
