5/6WHITE Class News

04.06.20

The beginning of Term 2 started with some students in 5/6 White learning from home and some at school. The students displayed great independence skills when accessing the learning from OneNote and remained in constant communication. It is wonderful to be back together as a community again.

In English, we have been focusing on literary devices and how they enhance our narrative writing. Students have been drafting and editing detailed and imaginative stories that engage the reader. The students have been focusing on giving and accepting feedback based on the success criteria. It has been a pleasure to see students track their progress and take ownership over improving their standard of writing. These stories are currently coming to life through iMovie. We are using a range of design programs to animate and narrate our stories.

Students have also been accessing Minecraft Education Edition as a tool to express design ideas and collaborate with peers.

In collaboration with Kim Martin, we have been working on a STEM project provided by CESA. The students are working in groups to invent a sport or game that follows social distancing rules. We have been using the design process to brainstorm, generate ideas, collect data, design and review their ideas. We are approaching the prototype stage next week where their ideas will be analysed and critiqued.

We have been completing a range of assessment tasks for many areas of the curriculum in preparation for Semester 1 reports and I have been incredibly impressed with the student's improved work ethic, time management and commitment to learning.

Keep up the amazing work, 5/6 White!
