School Sport Update

As COVID-19 restrictions begin to ease across the state and a very clear road map for the return of school and community sport, many of the different sporting associations have begun planning for a shortened season beginning next term.

Netball

Families with parents in Years 2 to 6 would have received communication in regards to the SAJNA Netball competition beginning in Term 3 if the easing of restrictions continues along its current path. This is able to take place as the netball venues are not large in size and appropriate social distancing is achievable. If you intend for your child to play netball please email me as soon as possible.

SACPSSA Carnivals

South Australian Catholic Primary Schools Sports Association (SACPSSA) carnivals will be going ahead in Terms 3 and 4. The first carnival on the calendar is the Netball Carnival and all students from Years 3 to 6 will be attending this carnival as part of their PE program. This carnival will be taking place on Wednesday 29 of July (Week 2). Very shortly after that the SACPSSA Cross Country Carnival will be taking place on Thursday 6 of August and will be open for students wanting to participate from Years 3 to 6. Information regarding the Cross Country Carnivalwill be forwarded to families by the end of the term and training will begin at the start of Term 3.

Soccer

In Terms 2 and 3 we would usually have a large number of our students participating in the NWJSA soccer competition. Unfortunately we have received communication from the association that they will not be able to begin a competition this year, so the 2020 season has been cancelled. Please find below the information and reasons behind the associations decision. This decision is disappointing for the many students in our school but also for the many thousands of school age children who compete in this competition. I know the NWJSA board are deeply upset that they were simply not able to under the current requirements and restrictions to offer a competition that would ensure equity and community safety.

URGENT INFORMATION RELEASE – CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) from the NWJSA

2020 SEASON CANCELLED Attention Member Schools & Delegates

The North West Junior Soccer Association Board regrets to announce it has decided to cancel it’s 2020 football (soccer) season.
This has occurred after lengthy consideration and in consultation with SA Health, Local Government, Sport SA and our Insurance provider.
The decision was based on:
  • Children not receiving fair opportunity to play due to the reduction to the number of teams that we would normally be able to accommodate. This is due to the compliance requirements of spacing games resulting in a reduced number of games able to be programmed.
  • Running large venues requires complex supervision. We are unable to sufficiently supervise these venues in the current COVID-19 environment to the required compliance level.
  • Inability to provide insurance that would enable support in pandemic conditions.
Please be assured that NWJSA is committed to offering the 2021 season and looks forward to next year.
We know this is a difficult decision and we thank-you for your continued support.
