Identifying Emotions and Just Right for Learning

In all classes across the school the students are asked to express the different emotions they feel across the school day. Many classes have an emotions wall and others use the language and class displays of Just Right, Too High or Too Low for learning. This language is used as a way to help students self-regulate and complete exercises or movements that assist them to regulate. These displays and walls allow students to monitor and regulate their emotions to ensure they are ready emotionally for learning or for them to identify what it is they may need to do to regulate their emotions.

Some classes use Brain Train activities to enable students to move into the Just Right for Learning zone. These activities are specifically targeted to which zone the child feels they are in whether it be too much energy for learning, too low for learning or just right for learning.

Character Strengths of the Month

The Character Strength of Spirituality will be our focus this month.

"I feel spiritual and believe in a sense of purpose or meaning in my life; and I see my place in the grand scheme of the universe and find meaning in everyday life."

As we have started the month of August we celebrated the feast day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop on the 8th of August. The students explored the life of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and how the Character Strength of Spirituality allowed her to overcome many hardships and setbacks to achieve all she did for others. This Friday we will also be celebrating the Feast of the Assumption and this will be another example of Mary as a woman filled with the Character Strength of Spirituality.
