WALK A MILE IN MY BOOTS PRESENTS HUTT ST CENTRE WALK A MILE CHALLENGE

The Walk a Mile in My Boots event is mixing things up a little bit this year.   So this year, we proudly present the Walk a Mile Challenge.

Our challenge is to Walk a Mile (or more) to help end homelessness and help us reach our collective goal of 6,000 miles – one for every person experiencing homelessness in South Australia.

You can walk 1 mile (1.6kms), 2 miles (3.2kms) or go the extra mile and challenge yourself to walk 6 (9.6kms). You set your own personal challenge – you choose how many miles you walk and where you walk. Registration is free. Will you strap on your boots and step up on Friday September 25?

At TWCS we will walk a mile (1.6km) around our school ovals, raising funds for the Hutt St Centre to help end homelessness. You can donate via our donation page.

Laudato Si’ Community

Some of you would have watched the ABC documentaries on climate change and the disposal of waste during the past couple of weeks and might wonder why we are bothering to separate out our waste materials.  It is important to note that the systems of waste management shown were not Australian, and whilst not perfect, ours is better than that. Please persist and resolve to get better at controlling your household waste.

At TWCS we now have bins for soft plastics.  These will be recycled via the major supermarkets.  A great way to reduce landfill.

The whole idea behind this recycling is that we need to reduce consumption, and the most powerful way to do this is to reuse items and containers instead of buying new, to rehome them if we can no longer keep them, to repair them if possible, to recycle them as a last option, and to allow them to rot down safely if they are able to do so.  This week consider how you can remove yourself from the “throwaway culture” that Pope Francis describes in Laudato Si’. Can you repair something that you were going to throw away, and use it again?

For more inspiration you can watch this episode about our Carbon Footprint.

Plenary Council 2020: Listen To What The Spirit is Saying...

The six themes that have been discerned as 17,000 peoples’ responses to the question ‘What is God asking of us in Australia at this time?’ are now published in six booklets offered for our reflection.  You are encouraged to explore these booklets online.

Theme 3: HOW IS GOD CALLING US TO BE A CHRIST-CENTRED CHURCH IN AUSTRALIA THAT IS Prayerful & Eucharistic?

The Listening and Dialogue responses revealed the deep faith, integrity and sincerity of all the people who gave of themselves in their offerings. The responses included divergent opinions on various topics. At the same time, they showed a common faith in Christ and a common desire to follow his teaching in love of God and love of neighbour. They demonstrated a commitment to living the gospel of Christ and sharing the gospel with others, even in the midst of a largely secular culture. They expressed a love for the community of the Church, despite the well-documented failings of members of the community. They showed a desire to be a Christ-centred Church that is prayerful and Eucharistic.

National Walk Safely to School Day

On Friday 11th September, children are being encouraged to start incorporating regular walking back into their daily routine, whether back at school or learning remotely from home.
National Walk Safely to School Day is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking (especially to and from school) can provide for the long term wellbeing of our children.  Start putting your best foot forward.

Free Kitchen Caddy

If you are interested in recycling food scraps using a free kitchen caddy and roll of bags, please complete the online form, Tenison Woods Catholic School - food recycling promotion, on the City of West Torrens website by Friday 25 September 2020.
