Sports Day

Last Friday saw the Tenison Woods Catholic School Sports Day being held for the first time in a number of years at school. We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day and the conditions were perfect for the students to compete in a number of different events throughout the afternoon.

The day began with each of the house teams entering the oval space with their team chants and songs and it was evident from the start that house spirit was alive and kicking.

The students then moved into competing in their tabloid events such as Sack Race, Sprints, Hurdles, Egg & Spoon Race, Long Jump, Over & Under, Vortex Throw and High Jump.

The students then had a afternoon break to rehydrate and fuel up for the afternoon events. After the break the students went straight into the testing long distance runs of  200m for R-2 and 400m for 3-6 students. Well done to each student for competing in this event and earning points for their house.

This then lead us to the always popular and fiercely contested Tug of War. Each round saw all of the students straining to show the Character Strength of Teamwork to will their team to win. After the Tug of War we concluded our Sports Day with the Baton Relay. The students ran as hard and as fast as they could to earn their house the final points up for grabs for the Perpetual Shield and Spirit Cup.

After all events had been completed I would like to congratulate MacKillop on winning the Perpetual Shield and Aloysius on winning the Spirit Cup.

I would like to congratulate each students who participated in the Sports Day as they all competed in a way that showed the Character Strengths of Zest, Teamwork and Perseverance. Well done to the house captains and vice captains Hudson, Abigail, Ilija, Amiel, Rose, Jesse, Steve and Shiv on leading their respective house teams on the day and also leading up to the day.

A thank you must go to the Year 5/6 students who created the Health Hustle and for their leadership in teaching and leading the students in this warm up. Thank you to all of the staff for leading and supporting the students on the day through all of the events and for their support in making the Sports Day possible. A thank you to Anna for once again undertaking the tricky job of scoring on the day and accurately collating all of the results. Also thank you to D for providing first aid on the day and to Peter for the wonderful photography on the day. Lastly thank you to families for attending and supporting your child and adhering to the many guidelines we put in place to keep everyone safe.
