National Reconciliation Week 2021

04.06.21

From Thursday 27th May - 3rd June, 2021 Australia is acknowledging National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week started in 1993 as a week of prayer for Reconciliation. Religious communities worked together to pray for reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people. Today, we’d like to continue this tradition and continue to pray for reconciliation.

So, what is Reconciliation?

At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians.

This is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our journey so far and explore how each of us individually and collectively, can contribute to achieving Reconciliation in Australia.

This year the theme is ‘More than a Word’. Reconciliation means taking action. On Friday, Sarah and Heather led the whole school in exploring the meaning and purpose of this year’s theme. Students from Year 1/2 Red and 4/5 Purple ran a whole school liturgy after recess. Students then moved through 4 rotations, exploring different aspects of Australian Indigenous culture including art, games, puzzles, and stories. Lots of students used the character strength of bravery when trying Green Ant Jam and Bush Apple Paste from Australian Native Food Co. located at Westfield Marion and Adelaide Central Markets.
