The past term and a half has been very busy for the students in the PE lessons. Each class has two lessons a week of PE on a Thursday and Friday. These lessons so far have been packed full of games, challenges, skill development and fun.

In Term 1, all of the classes were taught the game of Cricket. The students learnt about basic skills of cricket including batting, bowling, throwing and catching. The school was able to secure Sporting School funding and we had Matt from SACA join our classes for cricket clinics for 4 weeks of the term. Some of the favourite mini games the students played during the Cricket unit were Rapid Fire Batting and Knock Em Down Build Em Up. The Middel School classes progressed to playing mini games at the end of the term.

This term the classes have been learning about Netball. All of the students began with practicing the different types of passes. Year 3 to 6 have progressed to playing games with the focus on building game sense and understanding the rules of netball. These lessons are in preparation for the Year 3 to 6 students attending the SACPSSA Netball Carnival in week 10. Once again, we were able to secure Sporting Schools funding for netball and we will welcome Rachel from Netball SA to join each of the classes for a 4-week program starting next week.

Last Friday the school celebrated Reconciliation Week with an afternoon of different activities. One of the rotations was incorporated into PE and the students had the opportunity to learn about and play a number of different Indigenous Games. The students learnt about the origins of the different games and their purpose. One of the games was very popular with the students and it was called ‘Tambil Tambil’ It was played by the Jagara people of the Brisbane area. The game was used to practice accurately throwing spears and weapons. The photos from the activities can be seen below.
