Dear Families,
We have had a great start to the year, and we look forward to our Mass tomorrow where we will officially welcome our new students and families to our school and parish community. As part of the Welcoming Mass, our parish priest Fr Peter will also offer a commissioning blessing to all staff, School Board and Parents and Friend’s representatives who are able to be present.
Sacramental Program
At our recent Parent Information Night, I invited families to contact me with any questions regarding the Parish Sacramental Program (Year 3- Year 6). Fr Peter has since informed me that he is currently in the process of confirming dates for this year’s Sacramental Program. I will have further information regarding dates and correspondence for families in the upcoming newsletters.
Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is a significant day for our Church as it marks the first day of Lent. An Ash Wednesday Mass will be held in the Saint Aloysius Parish Church on Wednesday 6th March at 9:00am. During Mass students will come forward to receive ashes signed as a cross on their forehead. The Ashes come from palms used from the previous Palm Sunday. The cross on our forehead reminds us that we are entering into the 40 day season of Lent. Lent is a time where we learn about prayer, almsgiving and fasting (Matthew 6:1-4).
Project Compassion – Give Lent 100%
A significant focus for Lent will be our annual support for Project Compassion. Project Compassion supports communities around the world, also known as Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. As a school, engage in the themes of poverty, justice and dignity by exploring Caritas Australia’s online resources for Project Compassion. Further information regarding Lent and Project compassion will be included in upcoming newsletters.
Enjoy the weekend,
Matthew Harrison
