To begin the year, the Year 2/3 class has been focusing on Visible Learning and Visible Wellbeing which will set us up mentally for the rest of the year. We looked at the Learning Pit, Growth Mindsets, and Character Strengths to help us in our learning journey. Students learnt how to recognise when they are in the learning pit by being aware of how they might feel in the pit (frustrated, sad, etc…). We then looked at strategies to get out of the learning pit (make mistakes, positive thoughts, “I can do it”, reflect, persevere, keep on trying…). We explored the character strengths and recognised where our strengths were and how we can use them to help us in our learning.
Each day, we move our photo on the Brain Train Wall to show how we are feeling - Too Tired, Just Right, or Too Much. Once we know how we are feeling, we have strategies to bring us to the Just Right emotions so that we are ready to learn for the day. We go outside for Brain Training exercises every day after prayer.
During prayer, we have been learning how to do the sign of the cross, reading the Bible, discussing God’s Word in the bible, asking questions, sharing prayers, and saying the Our Father or Hail Mary to end prayer.
