Message from the Principal

07.11.19

Dear TWCS Families,

Last Friday we gathered as a community to celebrate Mass for All Saints. Fr Peter reminded us that the official teaching of the Catholic Church recognises a saint as a disciple who has lived a life of exemplary faithfulness to God. Originally, only martyrs, those who died defending the Christian faith were honoured as saints and recommended for recognition and respect among ordinary Christians. It wasn't until 933AD that the formal process of canonisation of saints was universally and formally recognised by the Church. Today, the many examples of saints and heroes of the Catholic tradition provide a way for us to reflect upon and consider how we can live our lives in ways that respond to God's call to 'love one another as I have loved you.'

Congratulations to our Reception and Year 1 students for participating in their first school 'sleep over'. It was fantastic to see so many happy and excited young people join in with the Life Be In It activities Friday afternoon as part of the sleep over. The new school BBQs purchased by our P&F were used for the first time to cook up the sausages, patties and kebabs for the children's dinner. The two new BBQs made easy work of catering for nearly ninety people!  I'd like to acknowledge and thank Gina, Nicole, Kelly, Sarah and Linda for organising the evening and also to Matthew Harrison and the many parents who came along to help out with the seventy children who stayed the night. I'd also like to thank Woolworths, Hilton and Coles, Anzac Highway for their support of our Early Years sleep over through providing vouchers to support the purchase of food and drinks for the event.

R/1K and 1/2S led our whole school assembly this week and provided us with some wonderful examples of the learning they have been engaged in this term, particularly through English, Mathematics and Art. We officially welcomed two new students at the assembly - Oscar who has joined 2/3T and Archie who has joined 3/4T. We warmly welcome Oscar, Archie and their family to the TWCS community and wish them all the best as they continue their learning journey with us.

This week our Year 4 and 5 students participate in a two night camp at Woodhouse in the Adelaide Hills. We wish them a safe trip and look forward to hearing about their adventures on their return.

Staffing news

Last week it was announced that Mrs Rita Campbell has been appointed as Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission (APRIM) at TWCS commencing in January 2020. I congratulate Rita on her appointment who I know is very much looking forward to joining the community to continue to develop and lead the future direction of the school. I thank Matthew Harrison for his commitment and dedication to the TWCS community as Acting APRIM over the past two and half years. Matthew's compassion and focus on supporting all children to develop and grow into thriving young people has been very much appreciated and there will be opportunities to thank and farewell Matthew later in the term.

Building Update - Redin Street Gate access

To enable the site to be ready for the building works to commence, the Year 5/6 transportable classroom will be decommissioned and removed from our site. The transportable removal date is planned for Wednesday 27th November. In preparation for this, the Year 5/6 class will be relocated to the Beehive commencing Monday 18th November for the final weeks of this term. During the decommissioning of the transportable,  the Redin Street gates will not be able to be used as an access point to the school. Families who collect their children from Redin Street will need to enter and exit from the Church carpark gate during this time. I ask all families to exercise care and patience during this time so that all children are able to enter and exit the school grounds safely.
