Welcome to the 2020 school year and what an exciting year it is for our community! It was wonderful to see lots of smiling faces return to school last Tuesday. The children have very quickly settled back to the routine of school and the new (temporary) positions of our classes are working well which is fantastic. A special welcome to Rita Campbell, our Assistant Principal Religious Identity and Mission (APRIM) and to Heather Docherty our Year 5/6 teacher. A very warm welcome also to our new students and their families who have joined the TWCS community this year. In Reception we welcome Lola, Armando, Jewel, Riya, Amelie, Jack, Oscar, Xavier, Emily, Ruby, Isabella, Anh, Guransh, Emmett and Isabelle. In year 1 we welcome Carter, Noah and Amirah, year 2 Magnus, year 3 Mariam, year 4 Mikaela and Tyler, year 5 Caitlin and year 6 Steve. We look forward to getting to know you and working in partnership with you throughout the year.
We have endured an unprecedented summer this year and I'd like acknowledge and express my deepest sympathy to all those in our community who have been affected, directly or indirectly by the terrible bushfires that have taken place across the country. We continue to pray for those who have suffered tragedy, lost loved ones, homes, animals, crops and their livelihood. May our solidarity bring support, hope and comfort as those who have been affected begin to rebuild their lives. As we start the year I draw your attention to our Parent Information Handbook available on the school website which contains important general information for parents about the school.
The building work has started! Sarah Constructions has moved in and the preparation works for our new building are well under way. Establishment of green play space on 6 and 8 Bickford Street commences very soon and once complete will provide significant additional play space for our students. In the meantime, the students are enjoying access to the rear of the oval at recess and lunch and for PE lessons. Please remember that whilst construction is taking place that there is no access to the school via Redin Street and that drop off and pick up is via the gate/s near the front office. It is important that all drivers and pedestrians exercise extreme caution when moving through the carpark. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Thank you to the parents and carers that were able to attend our Parent Information night held this week. Year Level Parent Information Handbooks will be emailed home this week, which include information relating to each specific class or learning neighbourhood. Parent/ Teacher interviews are held towards the end of this term, however should you have any queries regarding your child's progress throughout the term, please don't hesitate to arrange a time to meet with your child's teacher.
Last week, Year 5/6 White participated in an aquatics excursion to West Lakes and they thoroughly enjoyed the various activities which included snorkelling, kayaking, canoeing, surfing and sailing. Well done to our senior students for the way they conducted themselves throughout the day. Thank you also for the parent volunteer support on the day.
