Settling in
The students in 5/6 White arrived vibrant and ready to learn on Tuesday in Week 1. All the students have made their new educator, Heather feel very welcome and excited for the year ahead. The students have spent time reconnecting with one another through teamwork, questioning, fitness and comparison activities.
As a group we have established a supportive and engaging working environment that reflects the following:
• We all have a growth mindset
• We use our manners
• We use appropriate voices and language
• We respect school and personal property
• We care for our environment
• We listen when others are talking
• We move around the classroom sensibly
• We keep our hands and feet to ourselves
• We ask an adult for permission before leaving the learning space
• We have fun!
Curriculum
We have started to learn about persuasive Texts in English, place value in Mathematics, types of prayer in Religion, trust networks in Child Protection, coding and collaborating in Digital Technologies, cricket skills in Physical Education and The Learning Pit, Learner Qualities, Character Strengths, gratitude and setting SMART goals in Health and Visible Wellbeing.
One of the main skills we have been implementing throughout these lessons is the ability to give and receive quality and timely feedback. Both Heather and the students have been using a range of feedback strategies in hope that we use it to reach our full potential in all learning areas.
Aquatics Day
The students that attended the Aquatics Day on Friday participated in a range of fun activities including kayaking, sailing, snorkelling and surfing. The students were organised into groups and they rotated through the activities - leaving little time for boredom! A number of students said they experienced things they never thought they would, such as standing up on a surf board, seeing huge fish in their natural habitat and jumping off a sailing boat. The day was action-packed, educational and entertaining due to the wonderful instructors who ran the day at West Lakes Aquatic Centre.
We are all looking forward to an amazing year together!
