Newsletter Term 4 Week 6 2020

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Wow what an astonishing couple of days we have just had. I am sure that everyone's head is in a bit of spin trying to work out what just happened! The great news is that school is open on Monday, just as it was last Monday, with some restrictions from SA Health. They may well be the same as last week or they may be slightly different. We will have to wait and see what the revised requirements are. However over the past couple of days I have made a couple of decisions and today's news does not change them.

Stewardship Reflection

“Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.”
“Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities.”- MATTHEW 25:13, 21 
God calls us to nurture and develop the gifts He has given us and then generously return a portion with increase. He doesn’t want us to waste or hoard the gifts He has given us. He expects us to grow our gifts, use them wisely and be generous with them. Unfortunately, many of us are not generous in proportion to all that God has given us. We pray that we answer God’s call to nurture and develop our gifts and return them with increase.

During the second week of this term the Leadership team met with our Corwin Educator, Lyn Coote.  As a group we  re-visited out original Aspirational Statement and Action Plan.  
We discussed what we had achieved over the past 2 years and what we wanted to aim for in 2021.  The Leadership team will meet with the staff before the end of the year to discuss and create a new Aspirational Statement  and determine our Visible Learning focus for 2021.

Sports Day

Last Friday saw the Tenison Woods Catholic School Sports Day being held for the first time in a number of years at school. We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day and the conditions were perfect for the students to compete in a number of different events throughout the afternoon.

Term 4 has been a very productive term for all. We have been engaging in learning across all areas of the curriculum. In Science & Maths we have looked at the weather, collected daily data about the weather and each day noticed the changes that were taking place in the sky and on the land. The students are now able to describe the weather and make predictions about the weather.

Our school is to be a part of the WATTLE Space Mission project.

Year 2 to 6 students created a video explaining why our school should be part of this exciting project. Wattle seeds have been collected from a tree with half being sent to space and the other half remaining on earth. Upon return of the seeds from space, students will observe the growth of the seeds and collect data to see if there is any difference between the earth and space seeds.

Our wattle seeds are onboard rocket (SpaceX21) to be launched from USA on approximately 2 December (our time being 3 December). 

BUT please be aware that launch schedules shift ALL THE TIME. The weather, technology and other variances all are taken into account. 

This is at least a year long project with lots of exciting opportunities for learning more about space and our world. It is wonderful to see the awe and wonder our involvement in this project is bringing to our learners.

Hello TWCS Families

Well, what a week!!  Not much has been able to happen on the fundraising side of things but, the numbers have come back from the Term 4 Wine Drive.  With a record breaking profit of $3360, we would like to express our appreciation to everyone who purchased their wine. This fundraiser would not be successful without you all. 

OSHC Program- What we have been doing in OSHC- Recyclable material construction, Legos construction, hamma beads creation, playdough play, Art and craft activities.

Physical activities- Playground and court play- Soccer, basketball, hula hoops, sandpit play, and physical games hide and seek, camouflage games.
Homework and quiet time- Board game play and book reading.
OSHC program for coming weeks- Creativity -origami, fun with corn flour slime, cooking chocolate cake, rainbow cake, physical activities and musical dance etc.
